10 things I have learnt as a FLORAL ARTIST during the Covid19 confinement
Friday 13th March 2020, the Spanish government announced the beginning of the lockdown. Being stuck at home, not delivering bouquets just one month after launching Mosaic is clearly not ideal. But every cloud has a silver lining. I have decided to make the most of this situation, on top of spending a whole month with my family.
This is how I also started making immersive installations and more sophisticated bouquets.
1. Take pictures indoor instead of outdoor

The concept of Mosaic is to mix and match bouquets with walls in the streets. Not being able to go outside in the streets pushes me out of my comfort zone to mix and match differently, using floors and objects of the house.
2. experiment herbal tea with leftover flowers

Flower markets being closed makes me use flowers and plants I already have in a different way. I use plants such as eucalyptus and poppies to make homemade herbal tea that is absolutely delicious!
3. make floral objects and furnitures

Instead of making bouquets, I use flowers I have to expand my skills. Not finding what I was looking for online and learning by doing, I am discovering my own way of decorating rattan chairs, macrame… with flowers. I’m now ready to do floral arrangements for weddings and events.
4. Read more

Being at home gives me the time I never really took to read more about plants and flowers. I’m learning so many things on tulips, lilies, mimosa, buttercups… that I am also sharing with people.
5. Create Floral crowns that can be placed on the door or on the head

I always loved flower crowns hanging on doors at Christmas. Putting together Christmas tree branches and colourful flowers, I have found a way to kill two birds with one stone, creating crowns that could very well be placed on doors or on heads. Tested and approved!
6. Share my artistic inspiration

Not delivering physically gave me the idea to send flowers virtually, conveying positive energy on social media. This is how I started sharing with people pictures of bouquets and music, paintings, movies… that inspired me while doing them.
7. Get key learnings on Mosaic one month after the launch

Having launched the brand on the 9th of February 2020, I had to pause everything literally one month later. This gave me the opportunity to look at everything I have done and reassess how things can be improved moving forward.
8. Make the most of what I have

Every morning, walking the dog in the garden, I cut branches from trees I didn’t know so far. I put those branches in vases, making flower arrangements that have more foliage and are more wild to decorate the house.
9. Keep calm and carry on

On the 12th March 2020, I was lucky to take part in a wedding showroom organized by Paola, wedding planner, and Gemma, make-up artist. That same day, the Spanish government announced the closure of schools because of Covid19. As a result, no future brides came to the event. It was a shame, but all the suppliers have worked to make it work, the event still happened and the positive energy between us was priceless
10. Be grateful for 9 things I HAVE LEARNT as a FLORAL ARTIST during the Covid19 confinement

Taking the time to write down things I’m learning during the confinement makes me more grateful. It makes me realize that this situation is an opportunity to do things differently and learn in ways I couldn’t imagine.
